The Setting

On the bank of the Alaknanda

The temple town sits in a narrow Himalayan valley carved by the Alaknanda river, ringed by the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges — a dramatic backdrop for one of Vishnu's most sacred shrines.

A hot spring at the temple's gate

Pilgrims traditionally bathe in these warm sulphur waters before entering the temple — a striking contrast to the cold mountain air just steps away.
