Summer builds quickly, with daytime temperatures climbing to 32–36°C by May — hot and humid, though the coastal breeze keeps it noticeably cooler than inland Odisha. Plan outdoor activities for early morning or evening.
Monsoon season, humidity climbs (27–31°C) and showers keep the coast lush and green — this is also when Rath Yatra transforms the entire city, worth braving the rain for, with noticeably fewer crowds outside festival days.
A few things worth knowing before you book
If Rath Yatra is the goal, the date matters more than the season — the festival lands on a fixed lunar date in June or July regardless of the heat, so pilgrims plan around it months ahead rather than waiting for cooler weather.
